Dr. Michael Kogan Appointed to Head the Emergency Medicine Department at Laniado Hospital

Dr. Michael Kogan, an emergency medicine specialist, was recently appointed to head the Emergency Medicine Department at Laniado Hospital. The department, which receives approximately 90,000 visits per year, is one of the busiest departments in Israel and provides medical services to patients in the surgical, orthopedic, cardiological, and internal medicine fields, and also includes a ward for ambulatory patients. Dr. Kogan, who until recently served as a senior physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Sheba Medical Center, is an emergency medicine specialist – he completed a subspecialty in emergency medicine and a residency in internal medicine – also at Sheba Medical Center. Dr. Kogan takes up his position at a critical time for the department – these days, Laniado Hospital is about to receive the necessary permits to begin building the flagship project, the construction of a protected hospital for emergency medicine – which will spread over 4000 square meters. Dr. Kogan, who is aware of the development plans, says “I am a marathon runner, long-term challenges are challenges that interest me. This is why I chose to come here, to a very busy and challenging department, and to be part of a huge project like building a protected hospital for emergency medicine – a project that will be spread over several years. We, the team, will be part of the project planning, so that it will be possible to provide primary and life-saving medical care, along with conditions of stay for patients and accompanying families with maximum comfort. My weight and significance as an emergency medicine specialist and administrator, here at Laniado are significant and critical, both in routine and emergency situations.” Prof. Zvi Shimoni, the medical director of Laniado Hospital, said upon Dr. Kogan’s appointment, “We are recruiting experienced and reputable medical staff in order to provide high-level medical service. This is a task that we take seriously and invest a lot of resources in, for the well-being and health of about half a million residents of Netanya and the Sharon.” Mr. Nadav Chen, CEO of Laniado Hospital, congratulated Dr. Kogan upon his appointment and said, “The Emergency Medicine Department at Laniado Hospital is one of the most challenging departments in Israel. We receive a huge number of inquiries, and the trust of patients and families is very high. This is evidenced by the fact that the Ministry of Health’s report on the patient experience was recently published, in which Laniado Hospital received the highest score in Israel – 88%. We are on the eve of excavation and filling of the mega-project, the construction of a protected hospital for emergency medicine that will allow for the maintenance of continuity The functioning of the entire hospital, even in emergency situations such as Operation “Am Kalavi”.
