This week, a special training for dozens of interns from all over the country was held by the Foot Unit at Laniado Hospital. The training dealt with the topic of limb amputations, in different situations and with different therapeutic approaches. Various approaches to the treatment of patients after amputation were also presented. The amputation procedure, by its very nature, causes serious harm to the quality of life of patients, but sometimes it is unavoidable. Situations that require amputation often occur in advanced diabetes. The Foot Unit at Laniado Hospital treats many diabetic patients who find themselves in a situation where amputation is required to save their lives. Dozens of participants came from the following hospitals: Ziv Medical Center, Wolfson Medical Center, Galilee Medical Center, Shaare Zedek Medical Center, and Meir Medical Center. The training participants were greeted by the Orthopedic Department director Dr. Claude Picard, and the head of the Foot Unit, Dr. Aharon Liberzon, as well as the staff of the Orthopedic Department.

Dr. Picard congratulated the team of the Foot Unit and said: “This is a certificate of honor for a department that was opened just two years ago for providing and initiating such training. The patients in the unit are assisted by a dedicated, experienced team that works every day to develop professionally. Only recently, the director of the unit, Dr. Liberzon, and another doctor left for further training in Germany on the subject of micro-incision surgeries for the hallux valgus problem.”

Mr. Nadav Chen, CEO of Laniado Hospital said: “The academic and educational side is part of clinical excellence. We consider this kind of training to be a great privilege – part of the training of the future generation of doctors in the State of Israel. Carrying out nationwide training is evidence of high-level expertise and we will continue to do so in the future.”
