It’s not every day that a doctor, serving in a classified unit during the war, is called in to perform an emergency surgery at the hospital where he works.
One of the doctors at the Sanz Medical Center – Laniado Hospital serves in a classified unit starting from Simchat Torah. The doctor, whose name and picture are prohibited forpublication, during this long period performed dozens of life-saving surgeries inside Gaza.
Yesterday, the doctor received an urgent call from the CEO of Laniado Hospital, Mr. Nadav Chen, and the director of labor, Dr. Aryeh Simmonds, with an unusual request: “Ask the commander of the unit for an immediate release for a few hours to perform a life-saving surgery”.
The surgery was aimed to open a bilateral posterior blockage of the nasal cavity in a tiny newborn, a blockage that does not allow breathing at such a young age. This is a very rare case that occurs once in 50,000.
The doctor managed to be released from the unit for several hours, arrived in an IDF uniform at the hospital, performed the surgery and returned to the unit to continue his service.
