In this way, the unit continues the renewal process led by Dr. Anton Kabashe, the unit’s head. The vascular unit at Laniado Hospital has undergone a real revolution in the past year. Recruitment of Dr. Anton Kabasha to head the unit, together with the purchase of equipment and instruments and training of additional personnel resulted in the fact that today the unit performs a wide variety of surgical operations and vascular catheterizations. Recently, Dr. Kabasha performed EVAR surgery – a hybrid surgery that combines invasive surgery with central artery catheterization, aimed to repair an abdominal aneurysm. An abdominal aneurysm is usually detected as part of various screening tests performed on patients of advanced age, or patients suffering from other medical problems. Aneurysm is an expansion of arteries that creates pressure on the wall of the artery and can cause the artery to rupture and even lead to death.

A 70 years old patient performed a renal US examination, which revealed an abdominal aneurysm. Dr. Kabasha, together with one of the senior catheterization specialists in Israel, dr. Alexander Belenki, performed EVAR surgery on the patient to repair the aneurysm. The surgery creates an intra-arterial bypass of the aneurysm by inserting a stent, through which the blood flows. Performing the surgery requires cooperation of surgical and catheterization teams and specially trained operating room nurses, as well as special equipment. In a joint effort of all the parties, the surgery was performed in the Vascular Unit at Laniado Hospital, and the patient was discharged home with all the relevant indicators within the normal range. Dr. Anton Kabasha, the unit’s head, said: “”After an exciting journey of about ten months, it can be stated that the Vascular Unit at Laniado Hospital has completed the vision I set upon entering the position – performing all operations in the field of vascular surgery with the use of advanced technology. My cooperation with Dr. Belenki is a force multiplier, which allows patients to receive excellent medical service”.

Mr. Nadav Chen, CEO of Laniado Hospital, stated: “The Vascular Surgery Unit is another pillar in the construction of Laniado as a hospital providing high-quality professional response to its 500,000 residents of Netanya and the Sharon Area. Our goal is to provide advanced medicine at the highest level, both in the human and in the technological aspects”.
