Pride for Laniado – Groundbreaking research in the field of mental health of medical teams was presented at the ICN conference in Finland

Nurse Sharon Gavison Shesher, from the dedicated team of the maternity ward at Laniado, presented at a prestigious international conference in Helsinki, Finland, an important study in collaboration with Tel Aviv University that examined the effects of secondary traumatization – a phenomenon in which medical teams, such as nurses in the maternity ward, are repeatedly exposed to difficult cases during their work and are emotionally affected.

The study, conducted at the hospital among 126 nurses working in the maternity ward at the hospital (maternity, delivery rooms, breastfeeding and maternity), found that:

🔹 The higher the level of emotional intelligence the nurse demonstrates, the greater her ability to transform the difficult experience into personal growth.

🔹 The higher the value a nurse sees in the meaning of her work, the higher the likelihood of growth.

🔹 No direct link was found between secondary traumatization and growth – but emotional intelligence is an important key to strengthening this connection.

Sharon represented us with respect, sensitivity and professionalism – and raised an extremely important topic on the international stage of the ICN conference: the mental health of therapists. The presentation of the research at the prestigious conference is a testament to the high professional standards we adhere to here at Laniado – in body, mind and research.
